cron provide several scanners. As cron scanners are distinct models and brands, each has individual settings. Copyright law applies to all you scan. Please take note of the law: web.mit.edu/copyright. Be sure to credit your source on scanned images.
Technique
Resolution
- Images destined for the web should be scanned such that they've a resolution of 144 dpi (dots per inch) when at finished size
- Photographic images for print should be scanned such that they've a resolution of 200 dpi when at finished size
- Photographic images for professional publication should be scanned such that they've a resolution of 400 dpi when at finished size
- Line Art (ink on paper) should be scanned such that they've a resolution of 600 dpi when at finished size
- Do not scan at higher resolutions. This does not improve the quality of output and leads to very poor application performance and crashes
Format
- Photographic images to be placed in web pages should be saved as JPG or PNG. Do not use jpg for any other use, especially for high quality printing
- Other types of images meant for web delivery should probably be saved as GIF
- Otherwise save as TIFF
