- Users must keep cluster doors closed after 6 pm, and all day on weekends and holidays.
- Close the doors when you're the last person to leave—even during the day. Thefts are frequent.
- Don't let anyone in unless sure of his identity. (If you have trouble with your card, see the CRON Coordinator (9-516) for help.)
- Report suspicious characters to Campus Police (3-1212).
- All students, faculty, and staff in Architecture and Planning may use the clusters. The only other students permitted are those taking classes in Course 4 or 11 (and only for the duration of the class).
- Do not print unless it is really necessary. Stop and think before you print—your colleagues and the environment will appreciate it.
- Preview your job before printing. Most errors can be caught in preview. (Printing > Send Job)
- Do not use the printers as photocopiers. Multiple copies are to be made using the copier in 7-408 or CopyTech.
- Print Duplex (double-sided) whenever possible. The option appears in every print dialog box.
- Do not send more than 5 jobs to a particular printer when others are using the printer. Any jobs above 5 will be removed automatically from the print queue.
- Do not send large jobs (pages numbering > 100). Break these down into smaller jobs sent several minutes apart.
- Do not print (embedded) color/grayscale images at a resolution greater than 150 dpi. The printers cannot print images at higher resolution. The extra data which the printer removes only leads to crashed printers, long waits and corrupted files.
- Never print B&W on color printers.
- Do not print documents larger than 250 MB. They will be removed automatically from the print queue. If your document is > 250 MB, contact cron@mit.edu for assistance.
- Jobs left in the queue for more than 30 minutes are automatically removed form the queue. Find a printer with short queue before printing.
- Color printing is restricted to finished work, not casual drafts.
- You take full responsibility for managing your print jobs by using this web page: http://cron.mit.edu/eyeq.
- Delete jobs you no longer want or fear you will not have time to collect immediately. Do not leave them to print. You can remove them using this web page: http://cron.mit.edu/eyeq.
- Collect your printouts immediately! Uncollected printouts are discarded twice per day.
- Do not service printers! All problems (paper jams, toner, warnings, etc) should be reported to cron@mit.edu immediately.
*Previewing is easy and accurate, particularly on the Macintosh. ![]()
- Outside contracted consulting work on School equipment is not permitted.
- Do not install/steal/share copyrighted materials (software, music, etc)
- Food and beverages are not allowed in clusters.
- Please work quietly and be considerate of fellow users.
